Trainees are advised to contact the relevant supervisor of training before starting or early in a hospital rotation to develop a suitable personal training plan for the duration of that rotation. Much of this discussion will relate to the acquisition of defined training competencies as appropriate to the trainee’s prior training and achievements. Key steps in effective training and its supervision are logbook recording, the tracking of training progress, and sign-off of competency acquisition by the supervisor.
