Congratulations to Dr. Dermot Phelan, former Dean of the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland, who has recently been awarded the University of Galway Alumnus of the Year award for Medicine for 2024 at a ceremony on May 10^th 2024. This award is in recognition for his outstanding role nationally in the foundation of Intensive Care Medicine as a medical speciality in Ireland and internationally for his contribution to education with the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
